An Art(ist) Educator would be remiss without knowing about the National Art Education Association.  Join the community and connect with other Art(ist) Educators around the nation.

How Art Made The World is a good video series about the importance the visual arts has played throughout human history and how it continues to do so.  The videos themselves can be found on YouTube: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, & Part 4.

Thought Maybe is a great source of video documentaries and films about topics concerning our modern world such as industrial civilization, globalization, culture, history, technology, etc.  Here are some links to my favorite films: The Century of the Self, & All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace.

Everything is a Remix is short 4-part video series about Remix culture coined by Lawrence Lessig.  The video series explains the notion, there is no new original ideas and instead everything is remixed from a previous idea or practice in which the creative process is generated through copying, transforming, and combining.

Developing and writing a pedagogical philosophy can be rough for any teacher, pre-service or experienced.  These helpful sites can ease the burdened mind in generating a personal philosophy of teaching: UMN-TeachPhil, & TheTeachCenter.

I was recently introduced to the art of Olafur Eliasson, and I couldn't be happier for it.  His artwork embodies research aka art is knowledge - a sentimentality I share and strive to convey to others through my own practice.  You think you know cold, but you can never truly know it until you actually feel cold.

I cannot stress the importance the visual arts can play in education.  Yet, sometimes I just don't have the words... which is why I like to quote these esteemed art educators: Eisner (2009) and Gude (2004)Gude (2007)

It isn't enough for us to simply express why we believe the arts are important in education, we have to actually take a stand and advocate for the arts.  In doing so we become leaders for our field.

You can find more about Leonardo Da Vinci, Ralph McQuarrie, and Nathan Sawaya on my Inspirations page.

You can find more about Bill Nye the Science Guy on my Inspirations page.

I have already talked about my friendship with fellow artists, Aaron & Amy Hildebrand on my Inspirations Page, but did you know Amy has another site in which she took a photograph each day for a 1000 days!!  Talk about perserverence and fortitude!  Oh and they rock too!
